What is wagashi?
Wagashi is traditional Japanese confectionery and is usually served with Japanese green tea – matcha. The sweets are typically made of rice, wheat, red bean paste and sugar.
In this class you will learn how to wrap the anko (red bean paste) for the sweets, colour the nekiri and how to finish your creations. This will be topped of with making matcha to enjoy with your sweets!
What’s on the menu?
- Strawberry Daifuku – a traditional type of wagashi with a fresh strawberry filling
- Nerikiri – (lit. ‘made by kneading’) – a Japanese type of unbaked cake that is made by mixing and kneading ingredients; white bean jam, gyuhi (rice cake made from refined rice flour, sugar and water). This is coloured to create flowers and landscapes.
